Wayne and Robyn Stires are now in their 22nd year of innovative leadership in the Young Peoples Institute, always bringing highly energetic and creative ideas to our youth ministry. Every aspect of the program is integrated into a singly theme from games, to Bible classes, even the search for the now legendary “Golden Key”.
This year’s theme is based off the Netflix hit “Stranger Things.” Stranger things is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s. The first season focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy amid supernatural events occurring around the town, including the appearance of a girl with super power abilities who helps the missing boy’s friends in their own search. The groups of friends is on a search of peace in a world of monsters.
We live in a world full of monsters. We are on a search for God in the midst of darkness and horrors. Sometimes, when faced with the true monsters in our right-side-up world — monsters like depression, suicide bombers, human trafficking, cancer, mass shootings — We often find ourselves wondering where God is. When people are horrified and afraid, when the darkness seems overwhelming and people feel alone, the Church has to be the voice that says: It’s okay. There is a Savior who defeat Monsters.
